The objective(s) of the tool

Promotion of gender democracy at both universities, support for female scholars in their efforts to achieve a continuous career in academia

Description of the tool

Launched under the premise of gender-mainstreaming, karriere_links is a successful initiative for career planning and the promotion of junior talent at universities established in 2003. Jointly developed by the Department for Gender & Diversity Management at Johannes Kepler University Linz and the gendup – Centre for Gender Studies and Gender Equality at the University of Salzburg, the concept aims at promoting gender democracy at both universities, successfully promoting female junior academics as well as supporting career planning of doctoral students and tenure track candidates. Doctoral students are offered the karriere_links study program “Strategies for Success and Career Perspectives for Female Doctoral Students” structured into modules, with a duration of approx. 8 months. Tenure track candidates have the opportunity to participate in a four-day residential. Receiving professional support in their career planning through workshops, coaching sessions, discussions with established scholars and participation in network events, the female scholars are enabled to work and reflect on the development of their own skills and potentials while also having the opportunity to form networks with colleagues from other universities.

How the tool works, practical experience

Feedback from participants of these programs was consistently positive. The cooperation between the universities of Linz and Salzburg, which has worked very well for many years, was particularly fruitful.
