The objective(s) of the tool

The mentoring program is intended to support women in their ambitions and to accompany them during a certain stage of their academic career and/or towards professorships. The primary objective being an increase of the female proportion at the hierarchy level of professors.

Description of the tool

karriere_links Excellence Mentoring is a support program jointly run by the Universities of Linz and Salzburg. Aiming at tenured lecturers (habilitation), it supports two female academics from each university over a period of two years. The (temporary) relationships between mentee and (male or female) mentors comprise the program’s core. During regular meetings, the mentor imparts experiences and knowledge which the mentee cannot yet have acquired. In that way, mentoring represents the exchange of experience, the building of networks, individual support and advice, the planning and promotion of careers as well as the transfer of informal knowledge and contacts.

How the tool works, practical experience

Given the fact that running a program for only two mentees at each university is very cost and time intensive, new approaches for promoting female academics during habilitation were adopted, resulting in the discontinuation of the program.
