The mentoring program is intended to aid in increasing the proportion of women in academia. For example, the Development Plan (Point 4.6.3 Equality and Diversity) and the Affirmative Action Plan for the Advancement of Women (Section 2)

The objective(s) of the tool

Strategic development of female PhD students’ careers represents the objective of the new mentoring program doc:muv for female junior researchers. The program invites female pre-docs of all disciplines and faculties at the University of Vienna.

Description of the tool

Set at three semesters, the program offers participants the opportunity to strategically plan their academic careers, to enter into individual sponsor relationships, and to establish transdisciplinary (peer-)networks; joining three proven concepts of women’s advancement for the first time: mentoring, group coaching and training.

How the tool works, practical experience

muv, the program’s precursor, was evaluated repeatedly. The results indicated manifold aspects, revealing for instance different degrees of usefulness for pre- and post-doc researchers.
