In cooperation with the Career Service Center and one university institute, the Centre for Gender Studies (ZfG) organizes and finances the round tables as well as respective artistic contributions and manages the invitation of guest. As a rule, the evens are recorded and subsequently archived and presented on ZfG’s homepage. Budgeting for the discussions is specified in the target-setting and performance agreements between the Rector’s office and ZfG.

Organized at institutes of the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, these discussions concerning facets and facts of gender and equality encourage (self-)reflection of gender relations during studies, at work and when pursuing a professional career in the field of music (including music education, voice and instruments education) as well as theatre, opera performance and stage design. The exchange between lecturers and students of the university with graduates and guests from the respective art fields invites comparison and reflection on personal experiences, data, facts and figures as well as on current research on gender equality and gender aspects.

These regular round table discussions on equality and gender aspects at the institutes of the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz correspond to the objective of reflecting on gender relations during studies, at work or when pursuing a professional career in the field of music and theatre. Additionally, they help enhance gender-knowledge and gender competence at all levels. Fulfillment of these objectives is mandated in the university’s statutes (see Sections 94-96). A detailed definition of the objectives is also included in the Development Plan for 2016-2021 (Chapter 5: Gender and diversity), and in the new Plan for Gender Equality and the Advancement of Women.
